Bletsoe Bell Ringers

The Bletsoe Bell Ringers was established in April 2010. The bells had not been rung on a regular basis since the millenium apart from visiting ringing groups. Some friends who have been ringing for many years offered to teach us and we soon quickly learnt that bell ringing was not just pulling a rope! Many a practice session was spent with ropes coming off wheels or getting stuck in the wheel frame. Being safe is paramount and we soon respected the bells and the trouble they could cause. Of course experienced bell ringers would never blame the bells but Bletsoe bells did have a reputation for being ‘difficult’.
We decided to see if anything could be done to improve them and after many years in June 2014 we finally received a Heritage Lottery Grant to have them restored.
Please see HLF restoration project page for more details.

Our practice nights are on Thursdays from 7.30pm until 9pm. We are not an ambitious group and treat this as a social event as well as bell ringing.

Our handbells have also been restored by John Taylors and we would love to hear from anyone who is interested in learning to ring handbells. If you are already experienced in ringing handbells or church bells, you will be more than welcome to join us and pass on your knowledge.

Please email bletsoe@bacbr.org.uk or telephone 07516413860 before you decide to visit to make sure we are ringing.
